Neighborhood Advocates is a community based project to encourage people to grow their own food using the many newly developed and long established technologies and techniques. Our missions is sustainability and decentralization of our food supply to make it less vulnerable to disease and healthier for human consumption.
Our current focus is on Aquoponics as an easy to implement growing solution that anyone can implement in a small area or on a large scale. We also have a focus on energy solutions for individuals and communities with the same concern for decentralization and self-reliance.
We are providing support for community groups to build projects within their communities for the betterment of all. Different rolls to fulfill in a local food system can be mutually complementary and we need to have and promote all of them. Creating a secure staple food supply for members and additional quantities that members will obtain at stores for markets is importnat.
Most farmers do not want to incorporate this level of community and personal interaction and this is one area where we can help - education. Also beginning and less experienced farmers may be better off with the farmers market because they can focus on fewer crops and don’t have the pressure of trying to meet the needs of a committed community of members.
When farmers reach the point of wanting to produce food for people as a full time and long term vocation, then they look for the economic stability that can be generated within a dedicated community. Most farmers are reliant on the demands of government policy to make unhealthy and unsustainable systems. We provide a plan for a sustainable and secure future in farming that creates a conscious and committed relationship between the eater and the grower. Educating people about agriculture and foster social change is our mission.
Currently, there are people and organizations locally promoting retail and farmer’s markets. It is now time to generate greater public understanding and awareness, and support these efforts so that they can develop and manifest a greater number of viable local farms.
